bzip3 1.5.3 against RAR 7.23 on 1.5 GB of real binary files: RAR ends up 3% smaller, bzip3 gets there on a third of the CPU. A comparison that did not exist - published benchmarks pit bzip3 against xz, zstd and brotli, never RAR.
